The Black Stars may be preparing for the World Cup, but Captain Planet is already handing out yellow cards and he has reserved one for Prophet Eric Boahen Uche.
The musician and outspoken member of 4×4 has taken aim at the preacher after a prophecy about Ghana’s World Cup campaign appeared to miss the target. Prophet Uche had previously warned of trouble ahead for the national team, even suggesting Ghana could struggle significantly at the tournament.
But with the Black Stars still marching forward and optimism growing among fans, Captain Planet was clearly not in the mood for spiritual VAR reviews.
Taking to social media, the rapper mocked the failed prediction with the classic Ghanaian phrase, “Hands for touch am,” a playful way of saying someone has been caught out after speaking too soon.
The post quickly attracted reactions from football lovers and social media commentators, many of whom have grown increasingly skeptical of public prophecies tied to football results. The intersection of football and prophecy has long been a fertile ground for debate in Ghana, with several high-profile predictions over the years either spectacularly succeeding or crashing harder than a last-minute penalty miss.
For Captain Planet, however, this was less about theology and more about scoreboard politics. If you’re going to predict doom for the Black Stars, he seems to be saying, you’d better come with receipts.
As for Prophet Uche, the court of social media has already convened, and the jury appears to be having a field day.
One thing is certain: in Ghana, football is never just football. It is sport, entertainment, national therapy, and occasionally, a battlefield between prophets and punchlines.
