Some songs age. Others simply acquire better stories.

More than two decades after captivating Ghanaian music lovers with one of the era’s most memorable highlife records, celebrated musician Kofi Nti, together with his manager King Pee, is bringing back his beloved classic Rakia, this time with a fresh generation of Ghanaian musical firepower.

Originally released on July 3, 2004, Rakia quickly became a favourite across Ghana and beyond. Produced by acclaimed hitmaker Appietus and featuring highlife heavyweight Ofori Amponsah, the song became one of the defining records of Ghana’s vibrant highlife scene in the 2000s.

Its infectious melody, relatable storytelling and polished production gave Rakia the rare quality of a song that refuses to retire. More than 22 years later, the record is returning to the spotlight, proving that a good highlife song, much like good palm wine, can only get more interesting with age.

Kofi Nti is set to release ‘Rakia Remix’ on August 11, 2026, giving the cherished classic a contemporary makeover while preserving the spirit that made the original special.

The remix brings together three generations of Ghanaian musical expression. Veteran highlife singer KK Fosu, whose catalogue includes some of the genre’s most enduring hits, joins forces with contemporary sensation King Paluta, whose distinctive fusion of rap, melody and modern Ghanaian sounds has made him one of the country’s most exciting new voices.

The collaboration is more than a nostalgic revisit. It is a meeting point between eras, connecting the sound that defined a generation with the energy shaping Ghana’s music today.

At a time when classic Ghanaian records are finding new life through remixes, reinterpretations and cross-generational collaborations, Rakia Remix arrives with an opportunity to do something particularly valuable: preserve a piece of musical history while making it relevant to those who were not around when the original first hit the airwaves.

For longtime fans, it promises a welcome reunion with a familiar favourite. For younger listeners, it offers an introduction to a classic that helped define an important chapter in Ghanaian highlife.

With August 11 fast approaching, anticipation is building among highlife lovers and music enthusiasts eager to hear what happens when Kofi Nti’s nostalgia, KK Fosu’s experience and King Paluta’s contemporary swagger meet on the same record.

After 22 years, Rakia is not merely making a comeback.

It is coming back with company.
