Ghanaian musician Lord Paper believes making a serious comeback in today’s music industry requires more than talent, good songs and a little luck. According to him, a whopping $5 million would give him the financial muscle needed to properly relaunch his career and compete on the global stage.
Speaking with Nana Romeo on Okay FM, the artiste offered a candid assessment of the realities of today’s music business, where artists are not only competing with musicians from Ghana but also battling for attention in an increasingly crowded global market.
Lord Paper explained that releasing a good song is no longer enough to guarantee success. In his view, serious investment in promotion, marketing and other projects is necessary for an artiste who wants to break beyond Ghana and gain international recognition.
He noted that musicians who are satisfied with building careers within the Ghanaian market may not need enormous financial resources. However, those aiming for global recognition and hoping to compete with international stars such as Nigerian superstar Rema must be prepared to spend considerably more.
“I need at least $5 million to properly launch my music career and do some projects,” Lord Paper said.
The musician also reflected on his own career and admitted that a lack of aggressive promotion has played a role in slowing down his progress.
According to him, he has not always done enough to push his releases to the level required to keep him firmly in the spotlight. After all, even the best song can struggle to make an impact when nobody knows it exists.
Now, Lord Paper appears ready to approach his career with a bigger vision and even bigger ambitions. His message is clear: he wants to take his music beyond Ghana, but he believes achieving that goal will require serious investment.
For Lord Paper, the comeback plan is not short on ambition. The only small detail is that it comes with a very large price tag.
