Jay-Z Accuser Recants Rape Allegations and Says She Never Met Him

What started as one of the most explosive legal controversies in hip-hop has taken a dramatic turn.

The woman who accused Jay-Z of sexually assaulting her when she was 13 has now formally withdrawn her allegations, stating in a sworn court declaration that her claims against the rapper were false and that she had never even met or spoken to him.

The woman, identified in court documents as Jane Doe, originally filed a lawsuit in 2024 accusing Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, and Sean “Diddy” Combs of sexually assaulting her at an alleged after-party following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.

Both men denied the allegations. The lawsuit was later dismissed, but Carter subsequently launched legal action against the woman and members of her former legal team.

Now, in a 12-page declaration filed in Manhattan federal court, Jane Doe has completely reversed her account regarding Jay-Z.

“Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter never raped me. I have never met or spoken to Mr. Carter. Mr. Carter never engaged in any inappropriate conduct toward me whatsoever,” she stated.

She went further, explicitly describing her allegations against Carter as false.

“My claims that Mr. Carter and Mr. Combs raped me while a third celebrity watched are false. There is no truth to any of my claims against Mr. Carter,” she wrote.

The woman also expressed remorse over the consequences of her accusations, acknowledging the pain and reputational damage she says they caused Carter and his family.

“I understand my false accusations have caused Mr. Carter immense pain, suffering, and damage that can never be fully undone,” she stated.

No Payoff, No Threats, She Says

Jane Doe also addressed the question of whether she had been pressured into changing her story.

According to her declaration, she received no financial compensation from Carter or anyone acting on his behalf. She also said she was not threatened by the rapper or his representatives.

She instead raised concerns about the way her former legal team handled the case, saying that she had responded to an online advertisement seeking people with potential claims connected to Combs.

She said the advertisement triggered memories of sexual abuse she experienced as a minor, after which she contacted a law firm. According to her declaration, the lawsuit was subsequently filed without what she believed was sufficient independent investigation or proper authorization.

Jay-Z Drops Her From His Lawsuit

Following the recantation, Carter’s legal team has moved to remove Jane Doe from the lawsuit against her, effectively taking her out of the immediate legal battle.

However, Carter is continuing his legal fight against her former attorneys, including lawyer Tony Buzbee and his law firm.

The development marks a dramatic reversal from the original case, which drew widespread international attention when Jay-Z was added as a defendant in December 2024.

At the time, Carter strongly denied the allegations and accused Buzbee of attempting to use the case against him. Earlier reporting also documented significant inconsistencies in the accuser’s original account, although she initially maintained her allegations before eventually dropping the lawsuit.

Now, almost two years after the allegations first exploded into the headlines, the story has taken an extraordinary turn.

From courtroom allegations to a sworn recantation, the Jay-Z saga has delivered perhaps its biggest plot twist yet.
