Veteran Ghanaian singer Mzbel has shed more light on her fractured relationship with fellow musician Stonebwoy, revealing why she believes the award-winning artiste sometimes comes across as bitter despite his remarkable success in the music industry.

Speaking during a recent interview, Mzbel disclosed that she and Stonebwoy once shared a cordial relationship, but things gradually changed as his career reached new heights. According to her, the friendship cooled over time, culminating in the dancehall star allegedly distancing himself and unfollowing her on social media.

For Mzbel, however, the real turning point was not the unfollow. It was Stonebwoy’s reaction to a Grammy article celebrating influential figures in Ghanaian Hiplife.

The article, titled “10 Artists Essential to Ghanaian Hiplife,” featured Mzbel among a select group of musicians recognized for their contributions to the genre. Rather than joining in the celebrations, she claims Stonebwoy responded in a way that shifted attention away from those being honored.

Mzbel said she found his reaction puzzling, particularly because the feature focused specifically on Hiplife artistes. In her view, Stonebwoy, who has built an impressive career and earned accolades in multiple genres, had little reason to feel slighted by his absence from a list dedicated to a different musical category.

She explained that the recognition carried special meaning for her, especially because it represented one of the few major acknowledgments she had received in recent years. As a result, she felt disappointed that what should have been a celebratory moment became overshadowed by controversy.

According to Mzbel, Stonebwoy’s extensive achievements made his response even more surprising. She argued that someone with such a decorated résumé would ordinarily be expected to applaud others when their time in the spotlight arrives.

Her remarks have since sparked debate across social media, with fans split down the middle. While some sympathized with Mzbel and agreed that artists should be allowed to enjoy their moments of recognition, others rushed to Stonebwoy’s defense, arguing that the situation may have been misunderstood.

The discussion has once again brought attention to the delicate balance between friendship, recognition, and rivalry in Ghana’s entertainment industry, proving that sometimes the biggest stories happen away from the stage and outside the recording studio.
