OliveTheBoy Recalls Mother’s Opposition to His Decision to Pursue Music

Ghanaian singer OliveTheBoy has revealed that his decision to abandon his childhood dream of becoming a doctor in favour of a career in music was met with strong opposition from his mother, who even threatened to have him arrested.

Speaking about his journey into the music industry, the artiste disclosed that although his mother was a musician herself, she had hoped he would pursue a more conventional profession rather than follow in her footsteps.

OliveTheBoy said his love for music began at a very young age after listening to his mother’s songs on cassette tapes, an experience that inspired him to start composing music as a child.

“I knew about composing music from a very young age. I was just a kid, maybe four, five or six years old. I knew about it because I had listened to my mom’s songs,” he recalled.

Despite his early passion for music, the singer said he once aspired to become a medical doctor. However, as his interest in music grew stronger, he gradually abandoned that ambition and decided to pursue a career in entertainment.

The decision, he noted, created tension at home as his family struggled to accept his choice. According to him, his determination to follow his passion led to frequent disagreements with his mother.

“I literally forgot about being a doctor and everything. I had to become a very rebellious child. She tried to arrest me. She said she would arrest me, but around that time I knew it wasn’t possible because I was already 18,” he said.

Reflecting on his journey, OliveTheBoy said he has no regrets about choosing music, describing his success in the industry as proof that following his passion was the right decision.

The artiste has since established himself as one of Ghana’s fast-rising music stars, earning recognition for his unique sound and growing influence within the country’s contemporary music scene.
