For many musicians, the club is a second home. For Joey B, it sounds more like the perfect place for a nap.
The Ghanaian hip-hop star, born Darryl Paa Kwesi Bannerman-Martin, has revealed that despite working in an industry synonymous with nightlife, flashing lights, and endless social interactions, he is far from the life of the party.
Speaking in an interview today, the Tonga hitmaker offered a candid glimpse into his personality, admitting that clubs often leave him feeling more exhausted than excited.
“I’m not the outgoing type. I can literally sleep beside the speakers in a club. Like, I want to disappear,” he said, painting a picture that many introverts will find surprisingly relatable.
While fans may associate artistes with glamorous nights out and constant public appearances, Joey B says his reality is quite different. According to him, his reserved nature can be traced back to an experience from his school days that left a lasting impact on his confidence and social behaviour.
“Getting repeated in school made me an introvert,” he disclosed.
The revelation adds a new layer to the personality of one of Ghana’s most distinctive music stars, whose laid-back demeanor has often contrasted with the high-energy culture surrounding the entertainment industry.
Despite preferring a quieter lifestyle, Joey B remains fully focused on his music. The rapper is set to release his highly anticipated nine-track EP, Sexy Highlife, today, marking another exciting chapter in his artistic journey.
The project boasts collaborations with fan-favourite Bosom P-Yung and celebrated highlife musician Bisa Kdei, whom Joey B described as a true legend. Other tracks expected to feature on the EP include Exopa, News at 7, and Princess.
If Sexy Highlife delivers as much personality as Joey B’s latest revelations, fans may be in for one of the year’s most intriguing releases. After all, not every rapper can claim they are capable of sleeping peacefully next to a club speaker.
