Ghanaian singer Fameye has opened up about the unexpected chain of events that helped push him towards a career in music, revealing how skipping a high school mathematics examination and watching Medikal pursue his musical ambitions influenced his decision to follow a similar path.

Speaking in an interview with The Headless YouTuber, the singer, known for hits such as Nothing I Get, recounted how a decision he made during his school days changed his outlook on education and his future.

How Medikal Inspired Fameye to Skip His Maths Paper

Fameye recalled encountering Medikal on the morning they were both scheduled to write a mathematics examination. The two attended the same high school, and Fameye was surprised to see the rapper leaving instead of heading into the examination hall.

When he asked Medikal why he was running away from the paper, the explanation he received left a lasting impression on him.

“I met Medikal on my way to write my Maths paper because we went to the same high school, and I asked him why he was running away when we had an exam. He told me he had a performance with Criss Waddle at Music Music, so he couldn’t write it,” Fameye recounted.

The singer said the encounter influenced his own decision to abandon the examination. Already frustrated by the situation inside the examination hall, he reportedly pretended he needed to use the bathroom before making his way out.

That decision would eventually become one of the defining stories of his journey into music.

“If Medikal Could Do It, Then I Could Also Do It”

Fameye explained that missing the mathematics examination made him believe his chances of progressing to university had become considerably more difficult.

Rather than continuing to focus exclusively on the traditional academic route, he began preparing himself for the possibility of building a future outside the classroom.

“Because I didn’t write Maths, I knew automatically it was going to be very difficult for me to go to the university. I psyched my mind that I wouldn’t go to the university, but I had to make it somehow. If Medikal could do it, then I could also do it,” he said.

For Fameye, watching Medikal pursue music professionally offered an example of how a young person could work towards success outside the conventional educational system.

However, his account does not suggest that Medikal deliberately encouraged him to abandon school. Rather, the encounter appears to have shaped Fameye’s thinking at a crucial moment in his life.

From Rap to Singing: Fameye Finds His Sound

Fameye also reflected on the process of discovering the musical style that would eventually distinguish him from other emerging artistes.

Although he initially experimented with rap, advice from a senior who believed his voice was better suited to singing encouraged him to explore melodies instead.

That shift helped him develop the soulful sound that later became a key feature of his music.
