Ghanaian music legend Kojo Antwi has paid a courtesy visit to the Manhyia Palace, where he presented copies of his acclaimed memoir, Mr Music Man: The Journey, to the Asantehene, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the Asantehemaa, Her Royal Highness Queen Nana Yaa Akyaa II.

The visit took place during the Awukudae Festival and brought together two powerful symbols of Ghanaian heritage: the Asante traditional institution and one of the country’s most celebrated musical voices.

Kojo Antwi, popularly known as the “Mr Music Man,” was accompanied by his wife, Mrs Rocklyn Antwi, and ace broadcaster Dr Kwame Adinkrah.

During his engagement with the Asantehene, the music maestro formally presented 300 copies of his memoir to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. He also presented 50 copies to the Asantehemaa.

A Book, A Legacy

Published in February 2026, Mr Music Man: The Journey chronicles Kojo Antwi’s extraordinary life, musical career and experiences across decades in Ghana’s entertainment industry.

The memoir traces his journey from his formative years to his emergence as one of Ghana’s most influential musicians. It also reflects on the people, experiences and defining moments that shaped his artistry and helped establish his enduring place in African music.

Kojo Antwi has previously explained that one of the motivations behind writing the book was the lack of written accounts documenting the lives and experiences of many African music legends.

For him, the memoir is more than a personal story. It is an attempt to preserve history and ensure that future generations have a written record of the people and experiences that helped shape African music.

A Promise to Return to Manhyia

The visit also came with an important announcement.

Although the date for his next album has not yet been announced, Kojo Antwi assured Otumfuo Osei Tutu II that the album will be launched at Manhyia Palace in the presence of the Asantehene.

It is a fitting gesture from an artist whose career has long been intertwined with Ghanaian identity, culture and musical heritage.

Honouring the Asantehemaa

Following his meeting with Otumfuo, Kojo Antwi also visited the Asantehemaa, Her Royal Highness Queen Nana Yaa Akyaa II, to congratulate her on her enstoolment.

The gesture added another layer of significance to the visit, as the musician used the occasion not only to present his work but also to pay respect to the traditional leadership of the Asante Kingdom.

A Career Written in Music

Kojo Antwi’s contribution to Ghanaian music spans generations. His distinctive sound has drawn from highlife, Afropop and reggae, earning him a loyal audience in Ghana and across Africa.

His extensive body of work has also attracted academic interest, with researchers describing him as an important figure in Ghanaian popular music and a valuable subject in the study of the country’s musical heritage.

Few Ghanaian musicians have managed to remain as culturally relevant across generations.

Where Tradition Meets Creativity

Kojo Antwi’s meeting with Otumfuo carried significance beyond the presentation of a memoir.

It represented a meeting between two important pillars of Ghanaian heritage. On one side stands the Asante traditional institution, with its deep connection to history, identity and cultural preservation. On the other stands a musician whose work has become part of Ghana’s modern cultural story.

The Awukudae Festival provided an especially fitting backdrop for the encounter, bringing together traditional authorities, dignitaries and members of the public in a celebration of Asante culture and tradition.

For Kojo Antwi, presenting his memoir at Manhyia was an opportunity to place a chapter of his personal and professional journey in the hands of one of Ghana’s foremost custodians of heritage.

The moment also offered a timely reminder that Ghana’s history is preserved in more than palaces and archives. It lives in the music, stories, memories and experiences of the people who have helped shape the nation.

And if Kojo Antwi’s next album does indeed make its way to Manhyia Palace, the Maestro may soon have another memorable chapter to add to the journey he has already put into print.
