Ghanaian musician Kweku Flick has sparked a debate about local support for Ghanaian artistes after praising Tanzanian content creator Tenge Tenge for helping promote his latest Afro-pop single, Frangō.
In a post on X, the rapper expressed appreciation for the Tanzanian creator while suggesting that the song was receiving stronger support outside Ghana than at home.
“Sometimes the support you expect from home comes from somewhere else. Tenge Tenge, my brother, thank you for the genuine love. The people of Ghana know FRANGŌ is a Big record!! But somehow the support from outside is louder than the support from home. Huge song.”
Kweku Flick’s comments, however, generated mixed reactions online, with some fans challenging his assessment of the song’s reception in Ghana.
Some social media users pointed to Ghanaian TikTok creators with large followings who had already promoted Frangō, arguing that local content creators had played a role in generating early attention for the song.
Others also reminded the artiste of the support he has previously received from Ghanaian audiences, particularly following collaborations with established artistes such as Sarkodie.
The discussion has since reignited a broader conversation about the level of support Ghanaian musicians receive from audiences and content creators at home compared with their reception in other countries.
Following the reactions, Kweku Flick shared the official music video for Frangō while reaffirming his Ghanaian identity.
Released on July 31, 2026, Frangō was produced by Apya and is available on major digital streaming platforms as well as Kweku Flick’s YouTube channel.
The controversy surrounding the song comes as Ghanaian artistes increasingly rely on international creators, social media platforms and cross-border collaborations to expand the reach of their music beyond the local market.
