Nigerian Afrobeats star Omah Stanley Didia, popularly known as Omah Lay, has opened up about his ongoing relationship with smoking, admitting that he has stopped forcing himself to quit.
The “Soso” hitmaker made the revelation during a recent podcast interview with DJ Dan, where he spoke candidly about his repeated attempts to break the habit.
According to Omah Lay, he has tried several times to quit smoking but found it difficult to walk away from something he enjoys. He said he has now chosen to stop putting himself under pressure, noting that life is temporary and everyone eventually dies.
“I love smoking a lot. I tried to stop, I forced myself but I can’t. Honestly bro, life is just one. I am going to just die one day. We are all going to die one day,” he said.
The singer also explained that smoking, particularly cannabis, gives him what he described as a form of “artificial happiness.” He added that its illegal status in Nigeria contributes to a feeling of rebellion.
“I just want to be at peace and smoke my weed. And the fact that it is illegal in Nigeria, it gives me artificial happiness and a sense of rebellion,” he stated.
Omah Lay further stressed that he has decided to live life according to his own terms and embrace the things that bring him happiness.
“This is it. This is my life. I will just live it. I will enjoy every single thing that I have,” he said.
His comments have sparked conversations online, with fans and listeners weighing in on the singer’s candid approach to a habit he has openly struggled to leave behind.
