For Ghanaian gospel icons Daughters of Glorious Jesus, decades of hit songs and an enduring music career are achievements they cherish. However, the legacy they hope will outlive them is one built on unity.
The celebrated all-female gospel trio says unity has been the foundation of their journey and the driving force behind their longevity in an industry where many groups eventually go their separate ways.
According to the group, their ability to remain together for decades has been made possible by their commitment to staying united. That unwavering bond has helped them overcome challenges and establish themselves as one of Ghana’s most successful and longest-serving gospel groups.
To them, unity is more than a value. It is the secret to lasting success.
Speaking on Joy Prime’s Changes programme, the trio said the principle extends far beyond music and applies to every area of life.
When asked what legacy they would like to leave behind, lead singer Cynthia Agyare Appiadu responded without hesitation.
“Unity,” she said. “Where there’s unity, there’s victory. It applies to every aspect of life, including marriage, family, workplaces, churches and wherever you find yourself. When there’s no unity, there’s no victory.”
The group also highlighted humility as another cornerstone of their success. They believe remaining humble throughout their journey has strengthened their relationship and kept them focused on their shared purpose.
They expressed the hope that future generations would remember them as a trio that stayed together through humility and the fear of God.
“We want generations to come to remember that a music trio was able to unite themselves through humility and the fear of God,” Edna Sarpong said. She added that their story demonstrates that lasting unity is achievable and serves as an example worth following.
Sharing her perspective, Monica Owusu Ansah said the group’s relationship has grown far beyond friendship and professional collaboration.
“As my colleagues have said, it’s humility and unity. Edna and Cynthia are sisters, and I came in as their friend. We have worked together for all these years, even through marriage and different stages of life. It means a lot,” Monica said in Twi.
She added that after spending decades together, she has become part of Edna and Cynthia’s family. For her, that bond perfectly reflects the unity that has defined Daughters of Glorious Jesus throughout their remarkable journey.
