Afro-dancehall star Stonebwoy has shared the remarkable story of the accident that almost cost him his leg, revealing that he endured 13 years with a severely damaged knee before finally undergoing a total knee replacement in Germany.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Africa’s DJ Edu, monitored by GhanaWeekend, the award-winning musician recalled spending close to four months in hospital after the devastating accident, a period when doctors feared amputation could become his only option.
“I was in the hospital for like, give-and-take, four months straight… I had to live with a stiff knee. It was damaged for like a whole 13 years,” he said.
Stonebwoy explained that relief finally came in 2016 when he travelled to Germany for a total knee replacement procedure. Surgeons fitted him with a prosthetic knee, allowing him to regain mobility and continue the energetic performances that have become his trademark.
Rather than allowing the injury to define him, the musician said he remained determined to pursue both his education and his musical dreams. While many would have accepted months on the sidelines, Stonebwoy insisted on returning to school with the aid of crutches, refusing to let the setback dictate his future.
“I told my parents I can’t stay at home,” he recalled. “I was on my crutches in senior high school.”
His journey stands as a testament to resilience, proving that while life may occasionally force an intermission, determination can still steal the show.
