Obaapa Christy has officially raised the curtain on the maiden edition of Royal Praise 2026, and judging by the scenes in Accra and Kumasi, the gospel music star may have just discovered a winning formula: take praise on the road and let Ghana handle the dancing.
The celebrated gospel minister successfully completed the two-city gospel celebration, delivering powerful performances that blended worship, entertainment and Ghanaian cultural elegance. If the response from thousands of worshippers is anything to go by, Royal Praise has already earned itself a seat at the table of major gospel events in the country.
Accra Sets the Royal Tone
The journey began on August 9 at the UPSA Auditorium in Accra, where worshippers arrived in impressive numbers, many dressed in traditional outfits that perfectly matched the royal theme of the event.
The opening night featured an impressive collection of gospel heavyweights, including Joyce Blessing, Empress Gifty, Celestine Donkor, Uncle Ato and Akesse Brempong, who joined forces with the ROC Band to create an atmosphere charged with praise and worship.
Then came Obaapa Christy.
With a catalogue packed with familiar gospel favourites, the headline act quickly transformed the auditorium into a full-blown praise ground. The performance was less of a concert and more of a spiritual workout, with the audience happily supplying the energy.
Kumasi Gets Its Royal Homecoming
One week later, Royal Praise travelled to Kumasi for its second stop, taking over the Church of Pentecost in Bantama.
The Kumasi edition brought together another impressive lineup, with gospel veterans including Mama Esther, Lady Prempeh, Ernest Opoku and Bro Sammy gracing the stage.
Bro Sammy, never one to enter quietly, reportedly made a grand entrance that suited the royal atmosphere perfectly.
Joyce Blessing and Kwaku Gyasi also achieved the rare double appearance, performing at both the Accra and Kumasi editions and helping maintain the momentum of the tour from one city to the next.
Obaapa Christy Brings Fashion to the Praise
Obaapa Christy’s performances were not the only things commanding attention. Her wardrobe changes also became part of the spectacle.
She first appeared in a stunning white royal gown, setting a graceful tone for the worship session. After taking the audience through moments of deep reflection and praise, she returned in a striking green and yellow outfit and switched the mood from worship mode to full praise mode.
The result was an energetic medley of her classic songs, with the crowd responding as though they had been waiting all week for permission to dance.
Where Faith Meets Ghanaian Culture
Organised under the leadership of Footprint TV CEO Albert, Royal Praise 2026 successfully combined gospel music, Christian fellowship and Ghanaian cultural identity.
The event also benefited from the support of corporate sponsors, content creators, media personalities and thousands of worshippers who helped turn both stops into memorable celebrations.
More importantly, the successful first edition appears to have established Royal Praise as more than a one-off concert. It is shaping into a travelling gospel celebration capable of bringing different communities together under one musical and spiritual banner.
And now, the team is already looking ahead.
With the maiden edition firmly in the books, expectations are naturally rising for Royal Praise 2027. If Accra and Kumasi were only the opening chapter, Obaapa Christy and her team may have a much bigger royal celebration in store.
For now, the crown belongs to Royal Praise 2026. The next challenge is making the kingdom even bigger in 2027.
