When the general has to tell his own troops to stop firing, you know the battlefield has become a little too chaotic.
Ghanaian rap heavyweight Sarkodie has stepped in to calm the digital storm surrounding his SarkNation fanbase, urging supporters to put away the virtual pitchforks and call an end to the endless online wars.
In a reflective message, the award-winning rapper took his fans on a trip down memory lane, reminding them that SarkNation was not built on comment-section warfare. According to Sarkodie, the movement began with great music, genuine passion and positive energy.
He acknowledged that as the fanbase has grown, some of that original spirit appears to have been lost. But the rapper wants his supporters to understand one simple thing: attacking rival artistes and their fans does not make anyone a bigger Sarkodie supporter.
Sarkodie also had a message for his fellow musicians. He encouraged artistes to stop entertaining toxic fan behaviour simply because it boosts their egos or keeps their names trending. Sometimes, according to the rapper, the best response to online chaos is no response at all.
With social media designed to turn almost anything into a heated argument, Sarkodie advised his followers to recognise when they are being baited and simply walk away.
Not every provocative comment deserves a reply, and certainly not every social media battle deserves a soldier.
For Sarkodie, the real mission remains the same: celebrate the music, protect the movement and preserve the Sarkcess legacy that brought SarkNation together in the first place.
In other words, Sarkodie wants SarkNation to keep the music loud and the online warfare quiet.
