Just when you thought the Sarkodie and Stonebwoy saga had exhausted every possible plot twist, the internet has served up another course. This time, the battlefield is not the music industry. It is the kitchen.
As social media continues to feast on the drama surrounding the two Ghanaian heavyweights, an old interview featuring Sarkodie has resurfaced, and, unsurprisingly, the rapper was not short on confidence. The subject? Jollof. The verdict? According to Sarkodie himself, his pot belongs firmly among the best in the world.
The resurfaced clip comes at a rather interesting time, following Stonebwoy’s recent social media revelations about once hosting Sarkodie at his home and serving him a plate of freshly prepared jollof.
That revelation was all it took for the internet to grab its metaphorical frying pan.
Fans quickly transformed the moment into comedy gold, imagining the famously self-assured Sarkodie sitting down to enjoy Stonebwoy’s jollof. Memes followed in abundance, with social media users having the time of their lives imagining the Landlord of Rap temporarily surrendering his culinary crown to his fellow music star.
But Sarkodie’s old comments tell a very different story.
In a throwback interview with Capital XTRA, the rapper was asked to rate his jollof on a global scale. He did not exactly approach the question with the humility of a first-time home cook.
Sarkodie confidently placed his jollof among the top two in the world, leaving only a tiny window for anyone brave enough to challenge his claim.
And when it came to explaining what makes his jollof special, the rapper offered something even more valuable than a recipe: mystery.
According to Sarkodie, he could not quite put his finger on the secret behind his culinary magic. Apparently, some recipes are simply too powerful to be explained. Instead, he pointed to the impressive list of people who had tasted his cooking as living evidence that his confidence was not entirely cooked up.
Among his alleged culinary witnesses are Nigerian stars BNXN and Wande Coal, both of whom, Sarkodie claimed, had sampled his jollof. He also added American rap heavyweight Ludacris to the list, saying he had captured genuine reactions from some of his celebrity guests on camera.
So now we have an intriguing culinary subplot.
Stonebwoy has served Sarkodie jollof. Sarkodie says his own jollof is among the best on the planet. Nigerian stars have reportedly tasted it. Ludacris has apparently had a seat at the table.
At this point, the only reasonable solution may be a cook-off.
Forget microphones, studios and social media posts. Put Sarkodie and Stonebwoy behind two steaming pots of jollof and let the people decide.
Until then, the debate remains deliciously unresolved.
Because in Ghana, you can argue about music, football, politics and just about everything else. But once jollof enters the conversation, suddenly everybody becomes a food critic.
And for Sarkodie, apparently, being the Landlord is not enough. He wants the kitchen too.
