Sista Afia Spills on Her Unplanned Feature with Okesse 1: “I Wasn’t Supposed to Be on the Song
Sometimes the best musical moments happen completely by accident. Ghanaian singer Sista Afia recently let fans in on a little secret regarding her latest collaboration with rapper Okesse 1. As it turns out, the record was never part of a master plan, a scheduled calendar invite, or a corporate strategy.
During an interview on MX24 TV, the songstress revealed that Okesse 1 simply reached out out of the blue to ask if she would jump on a track he had in the works. Being open to magic, she agreed to give it a listen, and the rest is history.
“Actually, I wasn’t supposed to be on Okesse 1’s song; it just happened,” Sista Afia shared. “I was there and Okesse 1 called me and said he had a song which he wanted me to be on. I was like, ‘Sure, why not?’ He sent me the song in a few weeks; I listened to it and I loved it.”
While many fans know her for soulful vocals and high-energy pop jams, Sista Afia credited her secret alter ego for making the record flow so effortlessly.
“People don’t know that I’m a dancehall girl,” she admitted with a laugh. “I love dancehall and I’ve been a dancehall girl all my life. If you come to my house, you will realize how much I love it. Because of that, it was just an easy flow for me and that’s how we got here.”
The effortless session paid off big time, leaving listeners obsessed and turning the unplanned track into an instant hit. The overwhelming fan reaction caught the singer by complete surprise, but she is certainly not complaining.
“I didn’t expect the kind of reaction and attention the song had. It came as a surprise,” she added. “I can do a lot more if that’s what the people want.”
If accidental sessions yield results like this, maybe more artists should throw out their schedules and just go with the flow!
