The internet has many hobbies, but few things seem to excite it more than watching somebody else go through a difficult moment. And when that somebody happens to be a celebrity, the comment section can quickly turn into a stadium full of spectators.
Ghanaian singer and entrepreneur Itz Tiffany recently found herself at the centre of exactly that storm following the demolition of her beloved business, Itz BOX BAR, located along Laboma Beach in Accra.
The business was demolished as part of a taskforce operation aimed at clearing structures within protected lagoon buffer zones as part of flood mitigation efforts. For Tiffany, however, it was more than just a building coming down. It represented a significant financial loss and the destruction of something she had worked hard to build.
She has reportedly estimated her losses at more than $200,000.
But while Tiffany was dealing with the aftermath, some people online apparently decided that her misfortune deserved a celebration.
Yes, because apparently the internet has a special department dedicated to turning somebody else’s bad day into entertainment.
Rather than receiving sympathy, Tiffany found herself facing a wave of mockery from some social media users who appeared to take pleasure in seeing her business reduced to rubble.
But Tiffany was not about to sit quietly while the keyboard warriors enjoyed their front-row seats.
Taking to X, the singer fired back at those celebrating her misfortune, questioning the kind of mindset that allows people to find happiness in another person’s pain. She described the behaviour as displaying “witchcraft traits,” making it clear that she was not impressed by the negativity coming her way.
Then came the bigger lesson.
Tiffany reminded her critics that life has a rather unpredictable way of moving the spotlight from one person to another. Today, someone may be watching another person’s struggle from a comfortable distance. Tomorrow, circumstances could easily reverse the roles.
In other words, nobody has been given a lifetime exemption from hardship.
Her message carried a simple but powerful warning: none of us is untouchable.
And honestly, that may be the part worth paying attention to.
You can laugh at someone’s loss today, celebrate their disappointment and fill their mentions with insults. But life does not exactly operate with a permanent seating arrangement. The person being mocked today could be the person offering advice tomorrow, while today’s spectator could suddenly find themselves in the centre of their own storm.
Tiffany’s response therefore went beyond defending her business. It was a reminder about empathy, humility and the unpredictable nature of life.
The bulldozers may have brought down Itz BOX BAR, but they clearly did not demolish Tiffany’s ability to clap back.
And for those enjoying the downfall from the comfort of their keyboards, perhaps it is worth remembering one tiny detail about karma.
She has Wi-Fi too.
