Fameye has built a reputation for turning pain, struggle and deep life experiences into music that hits listeners right in the feelings. But apparently, not every Fameye song requires a heavy emotional backstory.
The Ghanaian singer has revealed that his hit track “Gen Z” came from a much simpler source: watching the younger generation live, party and enjoy themselves.
Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz, the “Nothing I Get” hitmaker explained that unlike some of his more personal records, “Gen Z” was not inspired by heartbreak, hardship or any profound spiritual revelation.
Instead, Fameye simply observed the lifestyle and energy of the Gen Z crowd around him and decided to turn what he was seeing into a song.
From Observation to Amapiano Banger
The song’s sound also received a major boost from Fameye’s experience in South Africa, where Amapiano has become a dominant force on dancefloors and in nightlife.
According to the singer, he noticed just how heavily the genre influenced the party atmosphere during his trip to the country. His tour DJ subsequently encouraged him to bring some of that South African flavour into the record.
Fameye then reached out to producer Cooks, who helped inject the song with Amapiano elements while retaining its original Afrobeat foundation.
The result was a more upbeat and infectious sound that allowed Fameye to step outside the introspective lane many listeners have come to associate with him.
Fameye Shows Another Side
For an artiste whose music often comes with a serious message and an emotional punch, “Gen Z” offered something refreshingly different.
There was no need to dig into childhood trauma, heartbreak or life’s struggles this time. Fameye simply watched a generation having fun, caught the vibe and turned it into music.
And perhaps that is the beauty of artistic versatility. Sometimes, the inspiration does not have to be complicated.
Sometimes, you just need to watch the young people party and make a song about it.
