Trying to scam a Ghanaian celebrity is already a risky business. Trying to scam Kuami Eugene and getting caught in your own trap is an entirely different level of embarrassment.
Ghanaian musician Kuami Eugene has shared a hilarious encounter with a suspected mobile money scammer who allegedly tried to convince him that money had mistakenly landed in his account.
According to the musician, the caller claimed that funds had been transferred to his MoMo wallet by mistake and that the account had subsequently been blocked by the network provider.
The caller then reportedly presented Kuami Eugene with a supposed solution. He was asked to follow certain instructions and provide information that would supposedly help unblock the wallet and facilitate the reversal of the alleged funds.
But there was just one problem.
Kuami Eugene was not buying it.
The Scam Hit a Roadblock
Instead of panicking or following the caller’s instructions, the musician questioned the logic behind the entire story.
Kuami Eugene reportedly told the caller that if the network provider had genuinely blocked his account because of an erroneous transfer, then the provider should be capable of handling the reversal directly.
No secret codes. No suspicious instructions. No unnecessary back-and-forth.
That response apparently left the suspected scammer with very little to work with.
Realising that his carefully prepared story was falling apart, the caller allegedly abandoned the MoMo script and switched to something much easier: insults.
Yes, when the scam failed, the insults reportedly started flying.
But by then, the musician had already seen through the alleged scheme, leaving the caller with nothing but frustration and a failed attempt.
The encounter serves as another reminder that MoMo users need to be extremely cautious when strangers call with stories about mistaken transfers, blocked wallets or urgent requests for personal information.
In this particular case, however, the suspected scammer picked the wrong person to play with.
Kuami Eugene did not just hang up. He reportedly made the scammer’s own story work against him.
Scammer: “Your account has been blocked.”
Kuami Eugene: “Then let the network unblock it.”
Game over.
