If Tilly Akua Nipaa has spent years helping the entertainment industry get its headlines, she is now stepping into a role where the headlines could help protect lives, defend freedoms and demand accountability.
The outspoken broadcaster and strategic communications professional has been appointed Communications Director of the Rights Accountability Network Africa (RANA), adding a new and rather compelling chapter to her media journey.
From showbiz buzz to human rights business, the microphone remains hers. Only the subject has changed.
From Celebrity Campaigns to Citizen Rights
Tilly, known in private life as Matilda Mensah Marfo, is no stranger to making noise for the right reasons. She has built a strong media presence through broadcasting and panel discussions on platforms under Despite Media and the Multimedia Group.
She currently serves as Head of Public Relations and Marketing at Crux Global, where storytelling, strategy and brand positioning are part of her daily business.
Her credentials include playing a key role in King Promise’s successful 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards Artiste of the Year campaign, as well as contributing to projects connected to the Basketball Africa League.
Clearly, she knows how to move a message. Now, the message carries even greater weight.
A Different Kind of Spotlight
At RANA, Tilly will lead communications strategy, media relations, digital engagement and public awareness initiatives.
Her assignment is to make the organisation’s research, legal interventions and advocacy work accessible to ordinary citizens, helping them understand their rights, recognise threats and know where to seek remedies.
In other words, this is not just about getting people talking. It is about helping people know what to do when their rights are on the line.
With a degree in Psychology, English and Theatre Arts from the University of Ghana, and a Master’s degree in Public Relations and Marketing in the pipeline, Tilly brings both academic grounding and practical experience to the role.
She also serves as the 2026 General Secretary of GRASAG-UNIMAC.
The Mic, With a Mission
RANA’s appointment signals a recognition that human rights advocacy needs more than legal language and serious-looking reports. It needs communication that connects, storytelling that resonates and voices that can reach beyond the usual circles.
For Tilly Akua Nipaa, the red carpets may be giving way to rights campaigns, but the spotlight is far from dimming.
This time, the biggest story is not who won the award.
It is whether people know their rights, and whether those rights are protected.
