The legal battle surrounding the estate of late Ghanaian highlife icon Daddy Lumba has taken another significant turn, with Akosua Serwaa filing additional appeal documents as she seeks to overturn key aspects of a High Court ruling that recognised two women as surviving spouses of the legendary musician.

The latest chapter in the high-profile dispute traces back to a judgment delivered by the Kumasi High Court on November 28, 2025. In a closely watched ruling, Justice Dorinda Smith-Arthur determined that both Priscilla Ofori, popularly known as Odo Broni, and Akosua Serwaa qualified as surviving wives of the late music star.

According to the court, both women had established the existence of customary marriages with Daddy Lumba, paving the way for their recognition in matters relating to his estate.

However, the ruling was not without controversy.

A central issue in the case involved a German marriage document presented by Akosua Serwaa as evidence of a civil marriage to the late singer. The court declined to accept the document as conclusive proof, noting that the record submitted was an extract rather than an original marriage certificate. As a result, the court found that it could not rely on the document to establish the existence of a legally recognised civil marriage.

Dissatisfied with that aspect of the judgment, Akosua Serwaa moved the battle to the Court of Appeal in Kumasi, challenging portions of the High Court’s findings. Her latest filings signal a determination to continue pursuing legal recognition of her claims as the dispute over Daddy Lumba’s marital status and estate enters a new and potentially decisive phase.

With both legal and public interest in the matter remaining high, the appeal proceedings are expected to attract significant attention as questions surrounding the late highlife legend’s legacy, family, and estate continue to unfold in the courts.
