For years, fans wondered why Joey B seemed to fade from the spotlight at a time when his career appeared poised for another major leap. Now, the rapper has finally revealed the health battle that kept him away from the music scene.

Speaking in an interview on 3Music TV, Joey B disclosed that he spent years struggling with recurring health challenges without knowing their true cause. The symptoms, which included fatigue, weakness and breathing difficulties, were often mistaken for malaria or sinusitis.

“I got sick. I didn’t know I had asthma. Before then, I used to think it was malaria or sinusitis because I would feel weak and get tired easily. Sometimes I couldn’t even breathe properly,” he revealed.

According to the artiste, it was not until 2019 or 2020 that a doctor identified asthma as the underlying problem. The diagnosis came as a surprise, although he later realised there was a family history of the condition.

“A doctor asked me if I knew about asthma. My dad also had asthma, although he says he’s healed now, so that’s when I found out what was really happening,” he said.

The revelation forced Joey B to shift his focus from music to his health, a decision he says was necessary for his recovery. Ironically, the very place where he created music became part of the problem.

The rapper explained that spending countless hours in recording studios often triggered his asthma symptoms. With the studio effectively serving as his second home, the condition gradually became harder to manage.

“What was triggering it was the studio environment. I practically lived in the studio and slept there. The more I stayed there, the worse it got, so I had to take proper care of myself,” he explained.

Despite the setback, Joey B insists there was never a moment when he considered walking away from music.

“Did I ever think about stopping music? Oh, hell no. I just needed my strength back.”

His candid revelation offers fans a rare glimpse into the personal challenges he endured behind the scenes and provides long-awaited answers about his absence. More importantly, it serves as a reminder that even some of music’s brightest stars sometimes have to step away from the spotlight to fight battles the public never sees.
