If confidence could sell concert tickets, Shatta Wale might already have Wembley Stadium on lockdown.
Gomoa Central MP and outspoken Shatta Wale supporter Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has explained why he believes the dancehall heavyweight has not yet headlined a concert at London’s O2 Arena.
According to A-Plus, the problem is not a lack of ambition. It is the size of the venue.
Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz, A-Plus claimed that the O2 Arena is simply too small to accommodate Shatta Wale’s massive fan base. He suggested that putting the artist in a venue of that size could create serious crowd-control concerns.
“As for us, the 4Lyfe and SM Movement family, the reason we can’t hold a concert at the O2 is because that place is too small for us. If Shatta plays a concert at such a space, people might get hurt or even die because the crowd is too much.”
And if the O2 is supposedly too small, the Shatta Movement is apparently thinking much bigger.
A-Plus revealed that the team is exploring the possibility of securing Wembley Stadium, a venue capable of hosting more than 80,000 people for major events. Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is also reportedly being considered as another option.
“We are trying to see if they would give us Wembley. We would fill up Wembley Stadium, which has a capacity of about 80,000. That is where we want to play, or maybe Tottenham Stadium.”
Now that is what you call skipping the warm-up and going straight for the Champions League final.
A-Plus also congratulated Stonebwoy for his international achievements and encouraged Ghanaian musicians to dream beyond the usual venues and chase major stages around the world.
However, he stressed that big dreams also need big support. According to him, sponsorship and backing from stakeholders are essential if Ghanaian artistes are going to successfully conquer some of the world’s biggest concert venues.
For Shatta Wale’s camp, then, the O2 may not be the destination. The target appears to be much bigger.
Wembley, here they come, at least if the stadium agrees to make room.
