Shatta Wale Wants Vybz Kartel in Ghana, But He’s Not Rushing the Dancehall King

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

When Shatta Wale calls something a “million-dollar question,” chances are fans should pay attention.

And this time, the question is one that has been floating around dancehall circles for years:

When is Vybz Kartel coming to Ghana?

According to the Shatta Movement boss, the answer is simple.

It’s happening.

Well, hopefully.

Speaking during a recent interview with Nigerian media personality Adesope Olajide, published on June 7, Shatta Wale revealed that plans are quietly underway to bring the Jamaican dancehall icon to Ghana for what could become one of the biggest reggae and dancehall events the country has seen in years.

The catch?

Timing.

And Shatta Wale is determined not to get it wrong.

Responding to questions about a possible Vybz Kartel appearance in Ghana, the “On God” hitmaker admitted that conversations have already begun behind closed doors, with promoters actively exploring the possibility.

But unlike many people eager to cash in on the renewed global excitement surrounding Kartel, Shatta says he’s taking a different approach.

“I’m working on it,” he revealed.

For Shatta Wale, the issue is not whether Kartel will come.

It’s when.

Since the Jamaican superstar’s release from prison, the Ghanaian dancehall heavyweight believes his mentor and friend deserves the opportunity to settle back into life, reconnect with family, and organize his career before jumping onto international stages.

In essence, Shatta Wale is practicing something rarely seen in show business.

Patience.

“I don’t like taking advantage of people,” he explained. “Since he came out of jail, I feel he had his own plans to work things out, so I’m just waiting for the right time.”

Of course, when that right time arrives, Ghana may need to prepare itself.

Because if Vybz Kartel eventually lands in Accra, it will not be for a casual meet-and-greet or a friendship tour.

Shatta Wale wants business handled properly.

The dancehall star disclosed that discussions with promoters are already focused on creating an event substantial enough to justify Kartel’s visit while ensuring the Jamaican legend receives the compensation and treatment befitting his status.

In other words, if Kartel comes, he is coming to work.

Not just wave at fans and pose for photos.

More Than Just a Concert

For years, Shatta Wale has openly credited Vybz Kartel as one of his biggest inspirations, with fans frequently drawing parallels between the influence both artists command within their respective countries.

A Kartel appearance in Ghana would therefore represent more than another international concert.

It would be a symbolic meeting of two generations of dancehall dominance.

One built in Kingston.

The other forged in Accra.

The Power of the Shatta Movement

Elsewhere during the interview, Shatta Wale reflected on the remarkable strength of the Shatta Movement fanbase, comparing it to some of the world’s most recognizable music communities.

Whether it’s Beyoncé’s BeyHive or Wizkid’s FC, Shatta believes the Shatta Movement belongs in that conversation.

And if there is one person he credits for helping keep that movement united over the years, it’s longtime associate and manager Sammy Flex.

According to the dancehall star, Sammy Flex has played a crucial role in communicating his vision, helping supporters understand decisions that often appear controversial, risky, or unconventional from the outside.

As Shatta Wale sees it, many people focus on the headlines.

Sammy Flex helps explain the strategy.

Waiting for the Right Time

For now, fans hoping to see Vybz Kartel touch down in Ghana will have to remain patient.

The conversations are happening.

The promoters are talking.

The groundwork is being laid.

And if Shatta Wale gets his wish, Ghana may soon witness one of the most anticipated dancehall events in recent memory.

Until then, the “million-dollar question” remains unanswered.

But for the first time in a long time, it sounds less like a dream and more like a plan.
