Alex Acheampong Teams Up With Celestine Donkor for New Gospel Single, Afa

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

When two heavyweight voices in Ghanaian gospel music decide to collaborate, you know the airwaves are about to receive a serious dose of praise.

Composer and songwriter Alex Acheampong has joined forces with gospel powerhouse Celestine Donkor for his latest single, Afa, a song that arrives with a message of faith, gratitude and victory.

The single is scheduled to hit major digital streaming platforms on Thursday, August 20, 2026.

The Akan word Afa loosely translates to “it has worked” or “it is a done deal,” and the song takes that meaning and turns it into a musical celebration of answered prayers.

Rather than sounding like a strictly traditional church number, Afa combines Acheampong’s songwriting style with contemporary gospel rhythms designed to connect with both worshippers and everyday music lovers.

According to Acheampong, the inspiration for the song comes from his own spiritual journey and the blessings he believes followed his decision to put his trust in God.

He points to experiences such as marriage, international travel, meaningful relationships, divine connections and inner peace as examples of what can happen when faith takes centre stage.

In other words, Afa is essentially Acheampong saying, “Come and see what God has done,” but with a beat.

Adding even more fire to the record is the unmistakable voice of Celestine Donkor. The gospel star brings her signature vocal strength to the collaboration, helping transform the song into a powerful testimony set to music.

Donkor also expressed her excitement about the project, revealing her long-standing admiration for Seventh-day Adventist music and musicians.

For her, Afa is more than another release. She describes it as a testimony with the potential to bless homes and inspire listeners across the world.

And gospel fans will not have to wait too long for the next chapter.

Following the release of Afa, Acheampong is expected to host the Ghana edition of his Emmanuel Praise Concert in December, giving fans another opportunity to experience his music and ministry on a bigger stage.

With its uplifting message, contemporary gospel sound and the vocal power of Celestine Donkor, Afa looks set to become more than just another song on a playlist.

It is a celebration of faith, a soundtrack for answered prayers and, if the title is anything to go by, a reminder that sometimes the best response to life’s blessings is simply: Afa. It has worked.
