Ghanaian highlife veteran Rex Omar has responded to the growing criticism surrounding his role as Presidential Staffer responsible for the Black Star Experience, following calls by media personality MC Yaa Yeboah for his removal from office.

The latest chapter in the controversy unfolded after Omar took to Facebook with a cryptic message that appeared to address the criticism without mentioning anyone by name.

“Intelligent people discuss ideas. Dumb people attack personalities.”

The post came shortly after MC Yaa Yeboah called for Omar to either resign or be removed from his position during a discussion on UTV’s United Showbiz on Saturday, September 26, 2026. (GHPAGE)

What Started the Rex Omar Controversy?

The disagreement stems from comments Rex Omar made while discussing the challenges facing the Black Star Experience.

Omar had appealed for patience with the initiative and linked some of the difficulties facing the entertainment sector to Ghana’s broader economic situation. He used the example of people struggling to afford basic necessities and questioned whether entertainment spending would naturally be a priority under such circumstances. (Yen.com.gh – Ghana news.)

The remarks quickly became a subject of public discussion, particularly because Omar occupies a government position connected to Ghana’s creative and entertainment sector.

MC Yaa Yeboah Demands Action

During United Showbiz, MC Yaa Yeboah criticised Omar’s comments and questioned whether they aligned with the objectives of the administration and the Black Star Experience.

She argued that as a Presidential Staffer associated with the initiative, Omar should be communicating in a manner that advances its objectives rather than highlighting economic difficulties as an explanation for the challenges facing the entertainment sector.

Yaa Yeboah subsequently called for Omar’s removal or resignation and suggested that he consider using professional public relations support when communicating on issues related to his office. (GHPAGE)

Rex Omar’s Cryptic Response

Omar did not directly name Yaa Yeboah in his Facebook post.

Instead, his statement about discussing “ideas” rather than attacking “personalities” was posted shortly after the television discussion, leading several entertainment news outlets to interpret it as an indirect response to the criticism. (GHPAGE)

The exchange has consequently shifted attention from the original discussion about the Black Star Experience to a wider debate about how government officials communicate about the creative industry, economic challenges and public policy.

More Than a Celebrity Exchange

At the heart of the controversy is a substantive question: how should Ghana’s creative sector be supported when economic conditions are placing pressure on consumer spending and government priorities?

Omar’s comments emphasised the effect of economic hardship on entertainment spending, while Yaa Yeboah’s criticism focused on the responsibility of the official overseeing an initiative intended to promote Ghana’s creative and cultural economy.

The disagreement therefore involves both the economic realities affecting the entertainment industry and expectations surrounding public communication by government-appointed officials.

For now, there has been no reported announcement of Rex Omar’s removal from the position. The Presidency’s response to the calls for his dismissal has also not been reported in the sources reviewed. (chale.news)

And with Omar’s cryptic Facebook post now adding another layer to the story, the Black Star Experience debate is clearly far from over.
