Ghanaian rapper Kweku Smoke has paid tribute to award-winning rapper and entrepreneur Sarkodie, crediting him with helping shape his music career and steering him away from a path that could have led to trouble with the law.
In a post shared on X, Kweku Smoke uploaded a photograph of Sarkodie with a heartfelt message expressing gratitude for the veteran musician’s mentorship and support.
“My lord 🙏 God bless you. If uno show me work, like by now FBI carry me,” he wrote.
The Pidgin phrase translates to: “If you had not shown me this work, the FBI would have arrested me by now.”
Although delivered in a humorous tone, the message was widely interpreted as an acknowledgement that Sarkodie’s guidance inspired him to pursue music professionally rather than engage in activities that could have resulted in legal consequences.
The post comes at a time when Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have intensified efforts against alleged online fraud and cybercrime, leading to the arrest and extradition of several Ghanaian suspects.
Kweku Smoke’s message also follows his recent collaborations with Sarkodie, highlighting the strong professional relationship the two artistes have built over the years.
The pair recently teamed up on the song Violence, while their collaboration Major League has also attracted significant attention from music fans.
Their musical partnership dates back to 2019, when Sarkodie featured on Kweku Smoke’s breakthrough single Be Quiet, a collaboration widely regarded as a turning point in the young rapper’s career.
Since then, Kweku Smoke has continued to rise in Ghana’s hip-hop scene, earning critical acclaim through projects such as Kweku Jesus and Born In Hell, as well as winning his first honours at the Ghana Music Awards.
