After half a decade away from full-length projects, Ghanaian music maverick Joey B has officially returned to the spotlight with his third studio album, SEXY HIGHLIFE, released today, June 10, 2025.

The project marks his first album since 2020’s Lava Feels, closing a five-year gap that quietly turned into one of the most anticipated comebacks in Ghanaian music.

But Joey B doesn’t just return — he reinvents.

SEXY HIGHLIFE finds the genre-bending artist stepping into a new creative lane where classic Ghanaian Highlife meets modern global textures. The album draws heavily from his 2024 stay in New York, where he encountered the rising “Sexy Drill” wave — a smoother, more romantic twist on drill music infused with Caribbean rhythm and mood-driven production. That sonic experience, he says, became the spark behind the album’s direction.

The result is a cross-continental soundscape: Accra nostalgia filtered through diaspora influence, stitched together with Joey B’s unmistakable laid-back flair.

One of the album’s most striking elements is its tribute to Highlife royalty. Several tracks incorporate samples from the late Daddy Lumba, including standout cuts like Akosua Broni and Princess. These moments don’t just sample history — they salute it, anchoring the project in Ghana’s rich musical lineage while pushing it forward.

Across nine tracks, SEXY HIGHLIFE moves between introspection, romance, and playful experimentation. The album features collaborations that underline Joey B’s wide creative orbit: Bosom P-Yung appears on Akosua Broni, Odunsi (The Engine) joins him on Exopa, while highlife veteran Bisa Kdei brings warmth to Kyeiwaa, a track already tipped as a potential radio favourite.

Even before release, the album had begun building momentum. Princess alone has racked up close to five million streams and sparked a wave of TikTok creativity, while tracks like Suzzy Williams, Akorfa, Yaa Abrefi, and News at 7 have helped shape the album’s mood — playful, reflective, and unmistakably Joey B.

With over 150 million global streams and a catalogue that has consistently pushed boundaries, Joey B remains one of Ghana’s most distinctive sonic architects — an artist equally comfortable in mainstream appeal and experimental spaces.

With SEXY HIGHLIFE, he doesn’t just return to the scene. He reshapes his corner of it — blending heritage, attitude, and global influence into a sound that feels both familiar and freshly untamed.
