For Ghanaian music duo Lali X Lola, the man walking beside them at industry events is not just a concerned father. He is also their manager, protector and one of the most important people behind their growing music career.
The rising sisters recently addressed questions surrounding their father’s constant presence at their industry engagements, explaining that having him manage their affairs is a deliberate decision that gives them both professional guidance and a strong sense of security.
Speaking on TV3’s Showbiz 360, Lali X Lola said they consider themselves fortunate to have their father handling their management, particularly as they navigate the music industry as young female artistes.
“Our Dad Is Our Manager”
According to the sisters, some of the questions they receive about their father’s presence come from people who appear to have questionable intentions.
They explained that a manager is expected to accompany artistes to various engagements, making their father’s presence no different from that of any other professional manager.
“Some men always ask why our dad follows us everywhere, because they may have bad intentions. Our dad is our manager, and we are blessed to have him as our manager.”
For the duo, having a trusted family member in such a critical position eliminates some of the uncertainty that can come with navigating the entertainment business.
Family First, Music Second
The decision also reflects the close relationship between the sisters and their family.
As emerging artistes, Lali X Lola have had to learn different aspects of the music business while developing their craft and building their identity. Having their father involved allows the sisters to concentrate on their creative responsibilities while someone they deeply trust handles important aspects of their professional affairs.
From their early efforts to teach themselves music skills online to appearing on bigger stages, the sisters have continued to develop their careers with strong family support behind them.
A Different Kind of Management Team
The music industry is filled with stories of artistes struggling to find managers they can completely trust. For Lali X Lola, that particular search is considerably simpler.
Their father understands them beyond the music. He knows the family, understands their personalities and has a personal interest in ensuring that their careers develop in a safe and sustainable direction.
While some may find the arrangement unusual in an industry where professional managers typically operate independently of family, the sisters clearly see the benefits.
For Lali X Lola, their father’s presence is not something they need to explain or apologise for. He is their father, their manager and one of the people they trust most to protect the career they are building.
And if his presence happens to make a few questionable characters uncomfortable along the way, the sisters appear perfectly happy to keep it that way.
