Veteran Ghanaian hiplife artiste Mr Oduro has returned with a socially conscious new single, Gishiri, using music as a platform to educate the public about the health risks associated with excessive salt consumption.
The title Gishiri, which means “salt” in the Hausa language, underscores the song’s central message of encouraging moderation in the use of salt as part of a healthy diet.
Delivered with an Arabic-inspired musical style fused with rap, Gishiri highlights the importance of making healthier dietary choices. The song draws attention to the dangers of excessive salt intake, which health experts have linked to high blood pressure and an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, and kidney disease.
Now a Doctor of Pharmacy, Dr Emmanuel Oduro has successfully combined his passion for music with his medical profession, using creative expression to promote public health awareness and healthy living.
The musician earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from D’Youville University School of Pharmacy in the United States and is a certified pharmacist. Although he has stepped back from full-time music, he continues to leverage his artistic talent to communicate important health messages through music and poetry.
In 2025, Dr Oduro also launched the Dr Oduro Foundation, a charitable initiative focused on improving lives through healthcare, education, and community development in both Ghana and the United States.
The foundation seeks to expand access to essential health services while supporting educational opportunities and community-based development projects.
Mr Oduro first gained national recognition during the early 2000s hiplife era with hit songs including Abiba, Meeli and Awura Adwoa, earning a reputation as one of the notable voices of Ghana’s hiplife movement.
With Gishiri, the artiste demonstrates that music can be more than entertainment, serving as a powerful tool for public education and social change while encouraging healthier lifestyles through an engaging and culturally relevant message.
