Veteran Ghanaian gospel musician Amy Newman has opened up about the foundation of her enduring marriage, revealing that she and her husband have shared 47 years together.
Speaking in an interview on family, faith and marriage, the celebrated gospel singer reflected on the principles that have sustained their relationship over nearly five decades, describing mutual respect, effective communication and unconditional love as the pillars of their union.
According to Amy Newman, a successful marriage requires commitment, patience and a willingness by both partners to support each other through life’s challenges, particularly while balancing family life with the demands of a career in the public eye.
“We have been together for 47 years, and through all the ups and downs, love, patience, and placing God at the center of our home have been our foundation,” she said.
The gospel icon advised young couples, especially those entering marriage, to avoid making impulsive decisions during difficult moments and instead cultivate understanding, tolerance and forgiveness.
She stressed that strong marriages are built over time through consistent effort, sacrifice and a shared commitment to one another, rather than through perfection.
Amy Newman also encouraged emerging gospel artistes and young families to keep God at the centre of their relationships, noting that faith has remained a guiding force throughout her marriage.
Her reflections have drawn admiration from fans and industry stakeholders, many of whom continue to celebrate her not only for her contributions to Ghanaian gospel music but also for serving as an example of a stable and enduring family life.
