Ghana’s dancehall rivalry may have produced enough plot twists to fill a television series, but Shatta Wale has just added another episode.
While performing at ShattaFest at the Youth Resource Centre in Ho, the “On God” hitmaker caught fans off guard when he paused his energetic set to publicly express love and support for his longtime rival, Stonebwoy.
Addressing the packed crowd in the Volta Region, Shatta Wale made it clear that no media commentary, public narrative or outside opinion could dictate how he feels about Stonebwoy or his music.
According to the dancehall star, he holds no grudges against his colleague. He explained that after surrendering his life to God, he had moved away from the desire for prolonged beef and negativity.
But Shatta Wale did not stop at making a declaration.
He decided to put some musical evidence behind his words.
His DJ reportedly dropped Stonebwoy’s viral hit “Putuu Freestyle (Pray)”, and instead of reaching for the mute button, Shatta Wale jumped right into the moment and performed along to the song on stage.
Now, that is one way to leave social media detectives scrambling for captions.
The unexpected display of solidarity came during an action-packed ShattaFest lineup that also featured performances and appearances from acts including Chief One, DGL Academy and DWP Academy.
For an industry that has watched Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy’s rivalry dominate headlines for years, seeing one of the two openly celebrate the other’s music was certainly a moment worth remembering.
Whether fans are ready to retire the beef conversation is another matter entirely. Ghanaian entertainment has taught us that even when the artistes bury the hatchet, social media sometimes keeps digging for it.
