Ghanaian dancehall artiste Stonebwoy has paid tribute to the late Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Naa Abukari II, describing him as a visionary leader whose legacy of peace and unity will continue to inspire generations.
Following the announcement of the monarch’s passing, Stonebwoy expressed his sadness in a post shared on X, while extending his condolences to the people of Dagbon and Ghanaians at large.
“I mourn the passing of Ya-Naa Abukari II, Overlord of Dagbon. His loss is felt across Dagbon and all of Ghana,” he wrote.
The award-winning musician praised the late Ya-Naa for his role in restoring unity and stability in Dagbon, particularly during a period of significant challenges in the Kingdom’s history.
“He was a leader of peace and vision. At Dagbon’s most fragile moment, he restored unity, healed divisions, and gave the Kingdom new hope and stability,” Stonebwoy stated.
The artiste also reflected on the special relationship he developed with the Dagbon Kingdom, recalling the honour and acceptance he received from the people after being recognised with the traditional title Dancehall Sapashini – The Warrior.
“I will never forget the love Dagbon showed me, welcoming me as family and honouring me with the title Dancehall Sapashini – The Warrior. For that, I am forever grateful,” he added.
Stonebwoy concluded his tribute by offering his sympathies to the traditional leadership, the royal family and the people of Dagbon, praying for strength during their period of mourning.
“My condolences to the Chiefs, the royal family, and the people of Dagbon. God grant you strength during this difficult time. Rest well, Ya-Naa. #Dagbon,” he said.
The passing of Ya-Naa Abukari II has attracted tributes from leaders, public figures and citizens across Ghana, with many highlighting his efforts toward peace, reconciliation and development within Dagbon.
