When your fanbase is large enough to make event organisers nervous about the building itself, crowd control is no longer a small detail. It becomes the entire assignment.

Shatta Wale has now explained why his highly anticipated performance at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology was abruptly cancelled, addressing the controversy during a live TikTok session.

According to the dancehall heavyweight, the decision came after the Ashanti Regional Police Commander assessed the proposed venue and raised serious safety concerns.

The location, Lienda Ville Hostel, was reportedly considered far too small to handle the army of fans expected to descend on the event. In simple terms, the police were not willing to gamble with a venue that could quickly turn into a human traffic jam.

Shatta Wale, however, made it clear that the cancellation had nothing to do with avoiding his Kumasi supporters. If anything, he suggested the opposite was true. His concern was that the Shatta Movement faithful have grown so massive that putting him in the middle of an uncontrolled crowd could result in an unexpected case of fans accidentally carrying their idol away.

According to the artiste, the crowd would need serious security arrangements to prevent the excitement from becoming a full-blown stampede situation.

Although cancelling the show just hours before he was expected on stage undoubtedly left many students disappointed, Shatta Wale maintained that safety has to come before the hype.

He also urged event organisers to take crowd management more seriously when planning shows involving major artistes with huge followings.

For now, the Shatta Movement will have to wait for another Kumasi takeover. But if Shatta Wale’s warning is anything to go by, the next venue had better come with plenty of space, stronger security and perhaps a little room for the fans to breathe.
